During “Shark Week” on the Discovery Channel, the Oklahoma Aquarium offers special features related to our sharks including presentations on why we need sharks, how we feed them, souvenirs and much more. All features are in the Siegfried Families Shark Adventure and the Cox Shark View Room unless indicated. Schedule is subject to change.
Sunday 1
All Day – Shark Scavenger Hunt
Stop by the information desk and pick up a shark scavenger hunt form for your kids, then see if they can find the answers without trying to dive in the tanks! Kids who bring back a completed scavenger hunt form will receive small prizes and go into a drawing for a gift basket full of shark souvenirs!
Monday 2
11:30 – Why Do We Need Sharks?
Sharks are one of the most feared predators on the planet, land or sea, but they are also one of the most important. Find out why we need sharks and why we need to protect them. Aquarium Education Department staff will host the discussion along with hands on activities for kids.
1:30 – Feeding Time!
Are sharks picky eaters? And do they need something like a fork from time to time? The answer to both questions is yes! Learn how our sharks have specialized diets and see the “tableware” used to make sure each shark gets their fair share. Space in the Cox Shark View Room is limited.
The sharks always put on a good show during the shark feed.
Tuesday 3
10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30 – Behind the Scenes Shark Tours
Have you ever wondered what it looks like behind our shark tank? Don’t miss your chance to go behind the scenes to learn what happens in a shark kitchen, where the biologists take care of our sharks and how the top of the shark is a completely different view! For your safety, registration is required, space is limited and restrictions apply. Children must be 5-years-old to participate and no more than 2 children are allowed per each adult chaperone. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Sign up at the information desk.
Wednesday 4
1:30 – Shark Tank Cleaning
What does it take to get in the water with 20 very large sharks and clean their tank? Talk with our divers, see the chain mail suits they wear and then watch how they go in to keep our sharks’ home in top shape. Space in the Cox Shark View Room is limited.
